Your Tampa Palms Summer Just Got a Lot More Fun

Creative world school May 29, 2026

There’s no better place to enjoy summer than the Sunshine State! When it comes to getting the best bank for your buck, it’s all about knowing which corners of New Tampa are built for small kids when the heat is up, and pacing outside time for early mornings or after dinner when the air finally lets go.

Lucky for you, this neighborhood has plenty of those corners. Real spots within a quick drive of Tampa Palms, picked because they actually fit a preschooler’s attention span and a parent’s tolerance for the weather, plus our own Camptastic summer camp at the Tampa Palms campus once preschool wraps. A few are free, all are easy, and every one gives you a reason to head outside when the AC starts feeling like a cage.

Enjoy New Tampa Community Park

If you only get to know one park this summer, make it New Tampa Community Park! The all-abilities playground there was the first of its kind in the city, designed so kids who use wheelchairs or have other mobility needs can play right alongside everyone else. For a preschooler, that means softer surfacing, sensory features at low height, and a layout that’s easier to keep an eye on than a traditional jungle gym.

There’s shade, picnic tables, and enough open space for a scooter loop or a wild round of soccer. Try asking, “What’s the very first thing you want to play on?” before you even park the car. Hearing the answer tells you what your kid is paying attention to that day. Pull The Listening Walk by Paul Showers off the shelf the same afternoon. A girl and her dad walk through their neighborhood naming every sound they hear, and the rhythm of the book makes it natural for a preschooler to want to try the same thing on the walk home from the park.

For more outdoor ideas, our team rounded up the best parks and trails for preschoolers in a separate guide.

Let New Tampa Regional Library Be Your Third Space

Florida summers are made for indoor reset breaks, and the New Tampa Regional Library is one of the best ones around! It serves Tampa Palms, Pebble Creek, and the rest of New Tampa, with a dedicated storytime room plus a big community room that handles wiggly preschool crowds without breaking a sweat. Programs shift with the season, but baby, toddler, and family storytimes typically run on a steady weekly schedule. The branch stays open into the evening Monday through Wednesday, until 8 p.m. Thursday, and until 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, which leaves you plenty of options when nap timing keeps changing on you. Bring a tote, let your kid pick three picture books off the shelf, and head home with free air conditioning, free books, and free craft programs all bundled into one trip!

Burn Off Energy at the New Tampa Sports Pavilion at Liberty

A few minutes from Tampa Palms, the New Tampa Sports Pavilion at Liberty Middle School opened to families after a multi-year community project, and it’s a hit with little kids! The site has open-use basketball courts, an enormous shaded artificial-turf field that feels like another small park, and benches around the perimeter for parents. School isn’t in session during summer, so the pavilion is open to the public during the day and most evenings.

Bring a soft soccer ball, a few small cones, or just let your preschooler run wide laps. The shade structure makes a real difference at noon, and the turf is much easier on small knees than concrete. Let your child try to explain what shape the shade is making on the turf, and you’ll get a fun little conversation about shapes out of it. It’s also a great spot for a preschooler to practice taking turns dribbling around a cone with a friend!

For more local ideas, our Tampa Palms preschool adventures guide keeps a running list of family-friendly spots in the neighborhood.
