Start at Founders Square

The fountain at Founders Square is one of the easiest wins in the neighborhood. There’s no admission, no equipment, and no real plan required, just water, shade, and enough open space for your preschooler to run off the last of their energy before lunch. It’s an easy first stop on a walk and an easy last stop before heading home.

Tanja King Park for the Bigger Outing

When you want a longer stretch of the day accounted for, Tanja King Park is the better bet. Between the splash park, the open field, and the playground, there’s enough variety that a preschooler’s attention won’t run out after ten minutes the way it might somewhere smaller. The cabana and picnic tables make it easy to turn a park visit into an actual lunch outing instead of a quick stop.

Save the Car for the Heat of the Day

Avalon Park’s walking and bike trails connect most of the community, which means the best strategy for a preschooler in August is timing, not distance. Mornings and early evenings are when the walk actually feels good. Midday is better spent inside at one of the community centers, saving the outdoor stretch for when the sun has backed off.
