Belton Keeps Your Family Busy All Year Long
Creative world school Apr 28, 2026If you’ve ever searched “things to do with kids in Belton” and come up short, you’re not alone. But Belton Parks and Recreation actually runs a packed calendar that a lot of families don’t know about. Dance nights in February, egg hunts in April, a full summer festival, a two-day fall celebration on Main Street, and year-round programs at the wellness center and library. There’s something going on in almost every season, and a lot of it is free! Even better, most of these events are easy to turn into learning moments if you know what to look for.

Start the Year with a Dance and an Egg Hunt
Winter and early spring in Belton don’t have to feel slow. The Sock Hop Family Dance at Memorial Station is one of the first big events of the year, usually held in late February. It’s an evening of music, a photo booth, finger foods, and an ice cream sundae bar. For preschoolers, it’s a real chance to practice social skills in a fun, low-pressure setting. Try putting on some music at home beforehand and letting your child make up their own moves. It builds confidence, and it makes the night feel like an event they helped prepare for.
Then spring brings the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Park. Belton Parks goes big on this one, with more than 10,000 eggs spread across age-divided fields! The 0-to-3 section is perfect for toddlers still figuring out how an egg hunt works. Free activities and a photo booth open at 10 am inside Memorial Station, and the Easter Bunny arrives by fire truck shortly after. The hunt kicks off at 11 am, and the whole thing is free.

Summer Runs on SummerFest and the Farmers Market
SummerFest at Memorial Park is the big one. It’s a free, all-day festival with inflatables, a foam party, a kids pedal tractor pull, food trucks, and live music that runs into the evening. For little ones, the foam party and inflatables alone can fill an afternoon! It usually falls in early June, so check the Belton Parks events page for this year’s date.
And if you need a plan for the rest of the summer, our Camptastic program at Creative World School in Belton runs themed weeks all summer long for school-age kids. Each week brings something different, from science experiments and outdoor exploration to life-size board games and creative design challenges. It’s the kind of summer where kids stay busy, stay curious, and actually look forward to Monday mornings.
On a quieter note, the Belton Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 4 to 7 pm, May through September. It’s more than a shopping trip. Let your child pick out a fruit or vegetable they’ve never tried before, and then cook it together that night. Point to something unfamiliar and let them guess what it is. Eating the Alphabet by Lois Ehlert is a fun one to pair with a market visit, especially for kids who are still learning their letters and love bright pictures of food.

The Fall Festival Takes Over Main Street
The Belton Fall Festival is a two-day event split between downtown Main Street and Memorial Park. The Family Fest portion at the park is geared toward younger kids, with pumpkin decorating, face painting, a petting zoo, a cake walk, and Touch a Truck. There’s also a free shuttle between the two locations on the Belton, Grandview, Kansas City Railroad. For a preschooler, the train ride alone is a highlight!
See if your child can name the animals at the petting zoo and describe what their fur or feathers feel like. It’s a simple, low-effort way to sneak in some vocabulary building while they’re already having a good time. From Head to Toe by Eric Carle is a great follow-up read after a day spent around animals.

Year-Round Learning at High Blue and the Library
Some of Belton’s best family resources aren’t seasonal at all. The High Blue Wellness Center has a 23,000-square-foot indoor aquatic center with a recreation pool, two slides, and swim lessons for kids as young as six months! It’s open year-round, so even in the middle of winter your child can be building water confidence and working on coordination. Swimming is one of the best full-body activities for developing both fine and gross motor skills at the same time.
The Cass County Public Library’s Northern Resource Center is another year-round favorite. Weekly storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers run throughout the school year, and the summer reading program keeps kids engaged when routines start to slip. If you’re looking for ways to support reading at home between visits, Encouraging Literacy at Home for Preschoolers in the Gen Alpha Era has some practical ideas.
